GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) and AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation) are the practice of structuring a page so AI engines — ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews — can read, trust, and cite it. Traditional SEO optimises for blue-link rankings; GEO/AEO optimises for being the source an AI quotes in its answer. As search shifts to AI-generated answers, the pages that win citations are the ones with clean structured data, attributed statistics, FAQ structure, and machine-readable semantics.
It grades a page on 12 dimensions: JSON-LD structured data, FAQ/Q&A structure, heading hierarchy, statistic density, entity clarity (title and meta), llms.txt presence, AI-bot crawl rules in robots.txt, semantic HTML, list/table density, image alt coverage, internal linking, and answer-readiness. Each dimension is scored 0-100 and weighted into a single 0-100 overall score with a letter grade. The scoring is deterministic — it reads the live HTML, robots.txt, and llms.txt directly.
The core score is fully deterministic. It is computed from the fetched HTML using fixed heuristics, so the same page produces the same score every time and the tool works even without any AI model configured. When a Gemini key is configured, the tool layers a short AI-written remediation narrative on top of the rule-based fixes — but the numbers themselves never depend on an LLM.
Two of the 12 signals live at the site root, not on the page. The tool fetches your robots.txt to detect explicit directives for AI crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended) and fetches /llms.txt to check whether you publish the emerging AI-crawler index file. Both are increasingly important for controlling and improving how AI engines crawl and cite you.
Any public http or https page. For security the tool rejects localhost, .local hosts, private and loopback IP ranges, and cloud metadata endpoints. It follows redirects, times out after 10 seconds, and caps the read size, so it stays fast and safe on any public page.
