Type any English word or phrase, pick a US or UK native voice, and hear it spoken clearly. Free ElevenLabs TTS for IELTS, TOEFL & interview prep.
Single words or short phrases work best — built for IELTS / TOEFL and interview-prep learners.
Listen first
Play the audio without speaking. Pay attention to syllable stress and the vowel sounds — these are what trip up most IELTS / TOEFL learners.
Repeat aloud
Pause the audio and say the word back. Match the rhythm and intonation, not just the consonants.
Listen again
Replay the audio with your own attempt fresh in mind. Notice the gap between the model and your own pronunciation.
Vary the speed
Slow it down to hear every phoneme; speed it up to practise natural conversational pace once you have the basics.
Type a single word or short phrase you want to practise (up to 200 characters). The example chips below the input give you 3 famously-mispronounced words to start with — "epitome", "schedule", and "literature".
Choose between US Female (Rachel), US Male (Adam), UK Female (Dorothy), or UK Male (Daniel). Match the accent to your exam — TOEFL leans American, IELTS often leans British. Hearing the same word in both accents helps you spot vowel-sound differences.
Slow for first-time practice (very deliberate articulation), Normal for everyday pace, Fast for matching native conversational speed once you have the basics down.
The audio auto-plays once. Listen first without speaking, repeat aloud to match the rhythm and stress, then replay or switch accents to compare. Two backlinked quick-action buttons let you slow it down or speed it up without retyping.
Four native English voices powered by ElevenLabs: US Female (Rachel), US Male (Adam), UK Female (Dorothy), and UK Male (Daniel). Pick the accent that matches your IELTS / TOEFL exam region — IELTS examiners prefer the British Council accent in many test centres, while TOEFL leans American. Hearing the same word in two accents is one of the fastest ways to fix lazy vowel sounds.
Under the hood we tune ElevenLabs voice settings — Slow uses high stability (0.85) so the voice articulates each phoneme deliberately, Normal uses balanced defaults (0.5), and Fast lowers stability and adds a touch of style (0.3 / 0.15) so the voice runs at a more natural conversational pace. Slow is best for first-time practice; Fast is best once you can already say the word and want to match native speed.
Yes — completely free, no signup. Audio generation costs us per character on ElevenLabs, so we cap free usage at 2 audio generations per day per IP address. That is enough to practice 2 tricky words a day. For unlimited pronunciation practice with voice recording, AI feedback, and progress tracking, our in-house product TalkDrill is built exactly for IELTS / TOEFL / interview-prep learners.
IELTS Speaking and TOEFL Speaking both score pronunciation explicitly — examiners listen for clear vowels, correct stress, and natural intonation. Tricky words like "epitome", "thoroughly", "schedule", "Wednesday", "comfortable", "literature", and "vegetable" trip up most non-native speakers. Hearing them spoken slowly by a native voice — and then at conversational speed — is the fastest fix.
Browser TTS and Google Translate use generic robotic voices that often mis-pronounce stress, swallow consonants, and skip the natural intonation patterns that examiners listen for. ElevenLabs is a generative AI voice model — it produces natural human-grade prosody, including syllable stress and the rhythm changes that distinguish "REC-ord" (noun) from "re-CORD" (verb). That distinction directly matters for your IELTS / TOEFL band.
Both, up to 200 characters.
